While knowing when to replace it is the easy part, most people surprisingly don’t know how to replace their filter. We’ll walk you through step-by-step instructions on how to replace your air filter.

How to insert Air Filter.

1. MEASURE

First things first, you need to measure your air filter so you know which size to order online. They’re measured in length x width x depth. The easiest way to do this is by measuring length and width on the same plane. If your filter isn’t a square, the smaller measurement goes first. Then, measure the depth, or thickness, of the filter. Now, put it together as L x W x D and you’ll have the size you need! You may need to round up if your size falls between measurements--never round down.

2. TURN OFF AIR

Changing your filter while the air is still on can be damaging to the system. Make sure you turn off your air so that large particles aren’t sucked in while the filter isn’t in place.

3. LOCATE FILTER

Once you’ve received your air filter, you’ll need to locate where the air is being intaked--this is where the filter is. Most air conditioners’ air intake vent is clearly located on the ceiling or floor.

4. REMOVE/UNLATCH DOOR AND REPLACE FILTER

Remove or unlatch the door in front of the filter and remove dust and other particles from the door with a wet washcloth or vacuum cleaner. Take out the old filter and replace it with the new one and then put the door back on. You are now free to turn your air back on!
